Over the length of the 2014 Winter Olympic games, Koch Ford Lincoln has been collecting equipment and monetary donations for The Brick Sport Central and KidSport Edmonton in an effort to support them in helping kids realize their potential and dreams through sports as well as promote lifelong health and wellness. These organizations help kids who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to participate in sports.
The Brick Sport Central provides children in need with access to necessary sport equipment and the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choice. They gather, sort, recycle, repair and redistribute all kinds of sports equipment including hockey, skates, bicycles, soccer, softball, rollerblades, racquets, snow sliders and many other types of gear. They even purchase new equipment to supplement supply and ensure safety standards. After unloading all of our sports equipment and gear at Sport Central today, me and my colleague, Tim, were lucky enough to be given a tour of the facility. All I can say is WOW!
Obviously, I had an idea of what they did (or so I thought), but I didn't know that the operated to that extent - actually seeing the immense amount of items they collect and redistribute was an eye-opener (you'll see when you flip through the photos). It really made us think about the overwhelming number of kids in need of this kind of support, how much this organization is doing to benefit them and how imperative it is that organizations like this exist; it really put things into perspective for the both of us - it was inspirational.
They had a multitude of rooms, shelves, containers, boxes, line-ups, heaps (you get the point), of equipment being prepped for the kids who will be oh-so grateful to receive them. We even got to meet some of the wonderful people who volunteer/work there and they told us a little bit about what they do - it was awesome! They were very appreciative and they thanked us for our donations but really we want to thank them for what they do for these kids everyday and ultimately the future of sports!
The team at Koch is honoured to have played a part in supporting them in their mission to help kids and definitely plan on doing more events like this one in the future.
